FACTS & FIGURES
On August 14, 1943, the Reichspost issued two stamps depicting a racehorse to celebrate the ‘Grosser Preis von Wien’ Horse Race (Grand Prix of Vienna) that would take place at the Freudenau race track in Vienna the following day. The 1½ mile (2,400 m) race was first run in 1868 and was for three-year-old horses. The race course is located in the Vienna suburb of Freudenau. The race this year was won by a German horse called Axel von Rambow, ridden by Otto Schmidt.
