A set of two postage stamps issued on October 9, 1938, to commemorate the inauguration of the Gautheater Saarpfalz (Theater of the District of Saarpfalz) at Saarbrücken.

After the end of World War I, the Saarland was separated from Germany and administered by the League of Nations. During this time, France was given control of the Saar's coal mines and industrial infrastructure. The Saar plebiscite on January 13, 1935 brought an end to the French administration with over 90% of the voters opting for reunification with Germany and the German Reich.
